InfoAs a tenant-rights advocate, community activist and spokesperson for immigrants' rights, Erlene King has earned a reputation for credibility, reliability, integrity and hard work in the field of public service, spanning over two decades. She is a former district manager in the office of Councilman Lloyd Henry (D-Brooklyn), and continues to hold numerous volunteer positions in local community groups, senior centers and neighborhood associations. Her leadership and activism have earned her widespread commendation throughout the borough of Brooklyn, in 2003 Erlene was endorsed by "The New York Times" and chosen as the Preferred Candidate by "Citizens Union of the City of New York", when she made a bid to be Council Member for the 45th, Council manic District in Brooklyn.

Erlene, a Guyanese national, migrated to the United States in 1979. She holds professional certification in architectural science and an Associate Degree in fashion design from the Technical Institute in Guyana and Traphagen School of Design in New York, respectively. She has also pursued additional architectural studies at Pratt Technical Institute and Business Administration at St. Francis College in Brooklyn. Erlene is married and have one surviving son and four grandchildren.

In 2004 Erlene founded and is the Chief Executive Officer and president of "The Community Help Center," which is a vehicle for economic, political and social-service advocacy in Central Brooklyn, CEO Erlene King is holding Forums at Public Schools and Churches throughout Brooklyn to address the impact of HIV/AIDS. Erlene serves as Director of Community Affairs at New World Creations Resource Center Inc., where she managed the HIV/AIDS outreach and referral programs and supervised the food pantry. Erlene is the Assistant Director for the Caribbean AIDS walk 2005. Erlene is an assistant Team Leader for The American Cancer Society Relay of Life of Central Brooklyn-05. Erlene is a fundraiser and member of the Arthritis Foundation's Nation-wide team walk. She is the Director of Public Relations for "Kids Living with AIDS Inc." Erlene chaired the Community Affairs Committee at the East Flatbush Branch of the YMCA and is a Standing Member of Camba's Beacon after school program advisory board at PS 269. Erlene is a founding member and for two years presided over the auxiliary of Kings County Hospital Center's nursing home "The Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing and Rehabilitation center." She represented the 45th City Council District at Community Board 17 and was a member of the 67th Precinct Community Council. She is a member of Brooklyn Winthrop Lions Club.

As a member of the New York City Council, Erlene will fight for an expansion of economic development opportunities and enhanced community services for the children and families of the 45th District. She will ensure that there is more resources to improve our schools and will work with community leaders and block presidents to address the quality-of-life concerns of the District. Erlene will work hard to increase funding for health care and more prevention programs to combat HIV the virus that causes AIDS. She will draw on her years of experience, as a tenant-advocate to expand the availability of safe and affordable housing and ensure that poor and working families are treated with dignity and respect in pursuing their housing needs. As a long time spokesperson for immigrants' rights she will fight for Fairer Immigration Policies. Erlene will put the needs of the 45th District first at City Hall.
