Info | Brent Halling was born and raised on a Century family farm in Dallas County near Perry. For the past 27 years he has been a grain and livestock farmer, working with his Dad and brother. Brent graduated from Central Dallas High School and attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1976. Brent and his wife, Brenda, have been married for 14 years. Brenda was also raised on a farm and is currently a pharmacist at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Throughout his life, Brent has been dedicated to community service. He has served as Treasurer of the Dallas County Fair Board and is presently a Township Clerk and Township Trustee.
Brent has a strong background in production agriculture, rural finance and community service. His experience as Past President of the Iowa Pork Producers provides a wealth of insight, knowledge and leadership, particularly with the challenges facing the pork industry today. A past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Advisory Council on Agriculture, Labor and Small Business, and as an Iowa emissary for overseas agricultural trade missions, he understands Iowa's role as a competitor in the global market place. Appointed to the Governor's Environmental Task Force in 1995, Brent understands the necessity to protect our natural resources, such as soil and water.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge appointed Brent Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture in November 1998. Brent has an immense interest in rural economic development and just completed a term as Chair of the Iowa Rural Development Council. He is also a member of the Plant Sciences Institute Board.
As a family farmer, a community leader, and through his experience in state and federal government, Deputy Secretary Halling is a strong voice for Iowa farmers. He is committed to serving the people of Iowa, initiating services and programs, and administering them in a way that will improve and protect the lives of all people in Iowa.
