Description |
Appointment to replace Norm Maleng, who died May 24. The King County Council must appoint a replacement within 60 days of Maleng's passing, otherwise the governor will make the appointment. As the filing period for local offices will almost certainly happen prior to the appointment, the Council must decide whether to choose a Republican who is already seeking the office or a caretaker who is not running in the special election. The appointee will serve until the general election is certified, scheduled for November 27.
The Council currently has a 5-4 Democratic advantage.
