Description |
Republican nomination
The Republican Party held its district convention at Plymouth on 6/2/1870. Cobb was nominated for another term unanimously (Raleigh Standard, 6/13/1870).
Morgan candidacy
Morgan entered the race around 7/1/1870 (Tarborough Southerner, 7/7/1870). The Conservative Party's executive committee at first wanted to run its own candidate who might win a three-way race but after failing to field a candidate, the committee endorsed Morgan instead (Wilmington Daily Journal, 7/21/1870).
