Ruling junta of Burkina Faso led by the nation's interim President since October 6, 2022 Ibrahim Traoré. Traoré was part of the group of army officers that supported the January 24, 2022 Burkinabé coup d'etat led by Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who was himself overthrown by Traoré on September 30, 2022. Movement for all practical purposes acts as the nation's sole political party. Movement professes great admiration for Pan-Africanist revolutionary and coup-leader, Thomas Sankara, Burkino Faso's first president (1983 until his assassination in 1987) and fashions itself an ally of budding Marxist movements in Africa (Traoré was the chair of the Marxist National Association of Students of Burkina Faso) [Mouvement patriotique pour la sauvegarde et la restauration (MPSR)].
