DescriptionRep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., announced Tuesday that she will not run in one of the country’s most competitive Senate races, instead opting to seek re-election to the House.

For months, Republican operatives mentioned Foxx as a potential candidate to challenge Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan — although it was somewhat unclear just how serious the five-term Republican was about a statewide race.

“The encouragement I’ve received to enter the race to become North Carolina’s next United States Senator is truly humbling,” Foxx said in a release. “But I already have the best job in North Carolina. Representing the people of North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District while working to encourage job growth, repeal ObamaCare, and return decision-making power in education back to our state is where my heart and focus lie.”
