Description | Sen. Ron Johnson is now saying publicly what some fellow Republicans apparently had doubted privately - that he plans to run for re-election in 2016.
The Hill capital newspaper reported that Johnson told a group of Republican strategists in Washington, D.C., that he was running for re-election last Thursday, and has initiated fundraising for a campaign.
That was followed on Monday by a local radio interview in which he said he would seek a second term in order to provide votes needed to streamline federal spending.
Johnson said on WTMJ-AM (620) that while he doubted he'd be able to accomplish his major goals - repealing the federal health care law known as Obamacare and reforming entitlement spending such as Medicare - he'd work for bipartisan solutions to fix the nation's fiscal problems. |
