Description | WASHINGTON — When the dust settled in the hard-fought 23rd district race last night, state Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, emerged victorious over incumbent Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco by 9,222 votes. But as of this afternoon, Canseco has not conceded, with his campaign citing numerous voting irregularities and alleged fraud at polling places in places like Zavala and Maverick counties.
The Gallego campaign issued a response this morning.
Per campaign manager Anthony Gutierrez: ”Mr. Canseco is welcome to dispute the will of the voters, as well as simple math, but this election has been decided. As a statesman, Congressman-elect Gallego looks forward to serving his entire constituency with dignity and grace. This just further highlights the differences between these two individuals.” |
