Description | Four candidates eyeing the Phoenix mayor's seat squared off Monday night, giving their positions on public safety, economic development, education and issues affecting the gay and lesbian community.
The candidates addressed the role of Public Safety Manager Jack Harris, who has been temporarily been removed from overseeing the Phoenix Police Department, and Phoenix's controversial economic development agreement with the developers of CityNorth, which landed the city in a lawsuit over whether a subsidy deal violated the Arizona Constitution's gift clause.
Four candidates participated: Thane Eichenauer, who ran for state treasurer last year as a Libertarian candidate; Wes Gullett, a consultant and partner of FirstStrategic Communications; Claude Mattox, a current Phoenix councilman; and Greg Stanton, a former councilman and former deputy state attorney general. |
