Description | On a brisk Wisconsin February day, I had the honor of marching with Wisconsin firefighters to the State Capitol. When we arrived, with the firefighters at the state capitol, we joined thousands already there making history and showing their support for workers' rights, like the right to bargain collectively. Many of those worker protection laws had their start in my state, and are a part of the rich history of Wisconsin's progressive tradition. Republican Governor Scott Walker, whose campaign was funded in large part by big corporate interests, is acting in direct contradiction with Wisconsin’s rich progressive history with his big government at its worst approach.
The attack on government employees in Wisconsin is just an experiment by our new governor, launched on behalf of national conservatives to test the waters of busting up unions in favor of corporate power. It is an outrageous attempt to pit private workers versus public workers--both which deserve long held and important organizing rights to match the power of their bosses. |
