Description | Dallas County Republicans voted Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats the winner of its Gubernatorial Straw Poll on Friday night. Vander Plaats grabbed 43% of the total vote, edging former Governor Terry Branstad (38%) and State Rep. Rod Roberts (19%).
"The Pre-Convention Straw Poll featuring the three Republicans running for Iowa Governor was a great draw for folks of all political stripes in Dallas County, and it was a good test for those gubernatorial campaigns three months before the June primary in the fastest growing Republican county in the state," remarked Pete Jeffries, Dallas County Republican Finance Chair. "The Pre-Convention Rally also helps accommodate more candidates running for statewide office, by allowing them to join us in Dallas County on Friday night and be able to hit more County Conventions throughout our great state on Saturday."
The Straw Poll highlighted a Pre-Convention Rally at the Dallas Center Elementary School featuring a Chili & Soup Supper as well as Republican candidates and campaigns for governor, other statewide offices, and Congressman Tom Latham (R-Ames). The local party raised more than $1,000 at the family fun event, attended by more than 160 adults and children, to help Republican candidates running in Dallas County in the November 2010 elections. |
