Description | The White House expects President Barack Obama to address his repeated quips about Las Vegas when he visits the city Friday to campaign for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
The president has rankled local officials in Nevada on several occasions by mentioning Las Vegas as an example of waste and excess, telling voters in New Hampshire recently: “You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college.”
If his comments become an issue this week, it won't come as a surprise.
“I imagine it’ll come up,” said senior White House adviser David Axelrod. “Obviously the president wants to encourage tourism, wants to encourage people to go to Vegas and other destinations around the country and enjoy themselves and spend their money.”
The president is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting in Henderson Friday morning, after which he will address business and tourism leaders in Las Vegas. |
