Description | Democrats have big majorities in the House and Senate. President Barack Obama is steadily pushing his agenda through Congress. Polls suggest only about 20% of voters identify themselves as Republicans.
So what’s Rep. Tom Price’s reaction to all this? He’s “remarkably optimistic.” He sees “a remarkable reawakening of the American spirit.” Most important, he sees a “remarkable, remarkable election in 2010” that will return control of the House to the GOP.
Most Republican leaders are hopeful these days, buoyed by a renewed surge of activism on the right and polls showing that more independents are questioning Obama’s policies. But few are as ready to boldly predict a Republican takeover, which would require a turnover of about 40 House seats, as Price, the Georgia Republican who heads the Republican Study Committee, a conservative caucus of House Republicans.
In a breakfast with reporters arranged by the Christian Science Monitor, Price predicted Friday morning that there will be more than 100 competitive House districts in November 2010, which would be a historically high number. Unlike in the last two elections, he added, qualified candidates are flocking to the GOP. |
