Description | DALLAS - Clergymen intent on ousting Dallas Mayor Laura Miller did not meet their Monday deadline to file a valid recall election petition but said they will try again.
The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Metropolitan Dallas and the African-American Pastors Coalition had until the close of business Monday to file at least 72,873 valid signatures of registered voters to force a recall election.
The Rev. Stephen Nash, pastor at Mount Tabor Baptist Church and president of the alliance, said that volunteers gathered about 80,000 signatures. However, they were able to verify only about 47,260 by Monday afternoon.
