Description | Michigan native and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney spent more than $2 million on television advertising in the month leading up to today’s Michigan presidential primary, easily outstripping top rivals Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, according to figures compiled by the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
Romney spent $1.1 million in the Detroit media market, compared to $358,000 for McCain and $271,000 by Huckabee, MCFN said in a news release Tuesday morning. McCain’s total spending, all since Jan. 4, totaled $744,000; with Huckabee at $483,000.
The free market, anti-tax group Club for Growth also spent $186,000 on ads opposing Huckabee, said MCFN Director Rich Robinson.
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich was the only Democrat in the race to advertise in Michigan; he bought $10,000 worth of television in the Detroit market in the last few days, MCFN said. |
