Description | NEW YORK Is controversial conservative columnist Ann Coulter off the hook for alleged voting fraud?
Palm Beach Post writer Jose Lambiet reported that the Florida Elections Commission says Coulter can't be charged because a two-year statute of limitations has expired.
The Universal Press Syndicate-distributed Coulter registered at an address other than her own in Palm Beach and voted in the wrong precinct in February 2006, according to Lambiet's story. But the piece added that "the clock started ticking when Coulter registered to vote, shortly after her arrival in June 2005, not when she voted."
West Palm Beach Democratic political consultant Richard Giorgio had filed a complaint about the alleged voting fraud. "We have an election commission that's hesitant to enforce the law," he said.
The commission did criticize Coulter for not listening to a pollworker who tried to steer her to the right place.
Coulter's alleged voting fraud has also been investigated by the Palm Beach Police, Palm Beach County's supervisor of elections, and the sheriff's office -- all whom declined to file charges, said Lambiet, who described Coulter as "the Teflon prima donna."
