An excerpt...
"For State Rep. John Myers, the five months since he last saw his son, Shamari Taylor, have been a time of rage, guilt and nightmares.

Coping with the disappearance of Taylor, who was kidnapped in August in West Philadelphia, "has been an up and down experience," he said.

"I really don't want my son to be dead...," said Myers, a Democrat who has represented parts of Germantown, Mount Airy and Nicetown for a decade. "But an old friend told me, somebody's going to be walking a dog sometime and you're going to get a call.

"What I am thinking about now is not just my son but the 406 [homicide victims] who have already been identified and 400 homicides the year before," Myers said in an interview this week inside his office on Germantown Avenue near Rittenhouse Street.

Taylor, who turned 27 in October, and a companion, Caren Murphy, were abducted from Murphy's car in the 7600 block of Woodbine Avenue in the city's Overbrook section at 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 26. Murphy was released about six hours later in the Strawberry Mansion section. Police said they think Taylor was transporting cocaine in the car.

Police have linked Taylor's abduction to a home invasion and shooting at his house on Aug. 27. Gunmen forced their way into the home and shot his 22-year-old sister, who was released from the hospital a few hours later, and shot his mother, Robin Nixon, twice in the head. Nixon is at home recovering from her wounds."
