Description | CHICAGO (AP) -- When an education testing company wanted to protect a multimillion dollar state contract, it hired lobbyist John Wyma, a former top aide and adviser to Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Wyma also got the call when a music school wanted help shaking loose a $1 million state grant it was owed.
Again and again, Wyma shows up as the lobbyist for groups looking for a piece of the state budget or for companies that might profit from government contracts. In this election year, he has become Exhibit A for critics who accuse Blagojevich of abandoning his promises to end politics as usual.
"It sure waves a lot of flags when you see this kind of influence-peddling going on," Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson, R-Greenville, said recently about one Wyma contract.
Wyma, 39, wouldn't discuss his lobbying work in detail or answer questions about his relationship to Blagojevich. |
