Description | The ceremony in Springfield on Thursday to honor slain police officers was appropriately solemn. But it turned downright silent when Gov. Rod Blagojevich's name was called and he wasn't there.
Several awkward seconds passed. Secretary of State Jesse White stepped forward as hundreds of police officers stood waiting with flags lifted. White announced he was not Blagojevich. The governor quietly arrived shortly thereafter and gave his speech.
Blagojevich said later that he wasn't given a specific time to pay his respects. |
