Description | It would be nice to write that Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) has a bright future in the House of Representatives. That is, if Shimkus were going to stick around. Shackled to a term-limit pledge, he is not.
Shimkus, a West Point graduate who represents a southern Illinois district, has this thing about honor.
He gave his word when he ran in 1996 that he would limit himself to 12 years in the House. His word is his word.
When he files for re-election in 2006 later this year, that's it.
