Description | The Republican runoff campaign in the 10th Congressional District has turned out much more rugged and dirty than the regular primary season.
In the last few days of the two-man primary election fight for U.S. Rep. Cass Ballenger's seat, the candidates are trying to win all the votes they can in the tight contest, and it's often not pretty.
Voters have heard little else from David Huffman and Patrick McHenry than claims and counterclaims of unfitness for the job. Now Republicans and independent voters must choose which one to support in Tuesday's election based on little else but the back and forth.
Huffman, Catawba County sheriff, and McHenry, a freshman state legislator, are competing for the GOP nomination. The runoff winner will face Democrat Anne Fischer in November, though political experts say a Democrat has a slim chance of victory. |
