Description |
Spruce Grove-Sturgeon-St. Albert, situated just northwest of Edmonton, was essentially unaffected by the 2004 redistribution. The riding takes in a few older, generally upper-income neighbourhoods from northern St. Albert, such as Lacombe Park, along with most of Spruce Grove, and Morinville. Most voters are urban, though the riding also includes the villages of Alcomdale, Riviere Qui Barre and Calahoo, and farmland in the County of Parkland and the Municipal District of Sturgeon.
The average household income, at $75,642, is above the Alberta norm, and fewer than one in 20 people here are low. Retail is the biggest employer, followed by health and social services. Nearly two-thirds of residents were born in the province, while seven per cent are immigrants. Aboriginal peoples make up six per cent of the population.
