Info | "Nearly 14 years ago, I made the decision to run for office of Auditor in the City of Lorain. Despite the experts and the leaders of the dominant democratic party predicting failure, I became the first Republican elected Lorain Auditor since the 1940's."
"As Auditor of the City of Lorain, I was able to combine my experience with the guidance from the State Auditor and State Department of Tax to assemble a team of CPAs and MBAs that brought fiscal responsiblity back to the city."
Despite being considered the underdog, Craig Foltin was elected Mayor as a republican in the predominantly democratic town both in 1999 and 2003. As Mayor, Foltin has the experience of being responsible for services including police, fire, streets, parks, utilities, community development and managing the City's $80 million budget.
He is credited with revitalization of the downtown and waterfront, implementing a performance based efficiency system, and saving the City from financial ruin. His accomplishments have earned several professional awards and state-wide board appointments.
Restored fiscal accountability to a scandal-ridden office.
Implemented the the City's first computer accounting system.
Eliminated a $4.1 million deficit and published the City's 1st ever Audited Comprehensive Annual Financial Report that has received awards and state-wide recognition.
At the age of 32, Craig Foltin upset Democratic incumbent Joe Koziura 51.5% to 48.5% in 1999 to win the Mayoral seat in the City of Lorain where Democrats outnumber Republicans 5 to 1. Kozuira had previously won that seat by a 70% margin against both democrat and republican opponents, and had also served for 10 years as a State Representative. He again ran against Foltin in 2003 and lost by a 55% - 45% margin
The history of Craig Foltin has been well documented by the northeast Ohio media market. He has been endorsed several times by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Lorain Morning Journal. Craig has been featured in Cleveland Magazine, Inside Business, Crains and is a frequent guest of several Cleveland market morning and afternoon drive radio shows. He regularly appears on the major TV news broadcasts and has been featured on several documentary shows such as WVIZ Idea Stream.
