InfoBorn in Italy, Pietro came to Canada with half of his family in 1959. The other half of the family had settled in East Vancouver on Graveley Street near Commercial Drive. Pietro graduated from Britannia Secondary School and went on to earn an Honours BA and MA from the University of BC and a teaching certificate from Simon Fraser University. While in university he worked as a waiter, office employee, sheet metal worker, maintenance worker, security guard and teaching assistant.

Pietro has been married to Chedna for 34 years and have lived in North Burnaby for the last 31 years. They have one daughter, Victoria Milena, who attended Capital Hill Elementary and Burnaby North Secondary.

In 1979 Pietro joined the Burnaby North NDP and served on the Burnaby North Executive numerous times. He has volunteered in every provincial, federal and most municipal elections ever since.

Pietro has a long established record of community service. He served as President of the BC Association of Teachers of Modern Languages. He is a founder and Honorary Life Member of the BC Heritage Languages Association. He has been a director of the Burnaby Multicultural Society and Vice President of the National Congress of Italian Canadians. Pietro served several years on the municipal Advisory Planning Committee.

In 1987 Pietro was elected to the Burnaby School Board and served three terms including two years as chair. Pietro chaired several school board committees, and was member of all of them at different times.

In 1996, Pietro was elected to the Provincial Legislature representing the constituency of Burnaby North.

As MLA he sat on the standing Public Accounts and Environment Committees and was appointed to several other committees. He chaired the Caucus Social Issues Committee and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business, Tourism and Culture.

In 2002 Pietro was elected to Burnaby City Council where he chairs the Simon Fraser Liaison Committee, is Vice Chair of the Environment Committee and is a member of the Community Policing Committee.
