Kern 1901-1903; member of the Illinois house of representatives 1904-1906 and 1910-1914; moved to East St. Louis in 1914 and continued the practice of law; served as United States attorney for the eastern judicial district of Illinois 1914-1918; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second Congress and served from March 4, 1931, until his death; had been nominated for reelection to the Seventy-third Congress; died in St. Louis, Mo., on November 6, 1932; interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
