Info | Bernard was an attorney who was involved in the NC Republican Party. He first practiced law in Greenville NC. He was a Republican candidate for Presidential Elector (at large) in 1892. In 1894 he was elected district attorney but was denied the position on a technicality. District Attorney for the Eastern District of NC. The family moved to Raleigh in 1899 (Raleigh News & Observer, 4/24/1906). Bernard supported Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and considered a run for the US House as a Progressive in 1916 (Greensboro Daily News, 10/14/1915).
