InfoJulie Lythcott-Haims has dedicated her career to fighting for humans and changing government to deliver real, progressive results for California. As a Black, biracial, queer, bisexual parent of two, educator, lawyer, former Stanford Dean, Palo Alto Councilmember, and author, Julie has led on the issues of affordable housing, youth mental health, climate change, and building a sense of belonging for people, regardless of their identity. Julie is running for Congress to represent regular people – not corporations & special interests.

In 2021, Assemblyman Marc Berman named Lythcott-Haims Woman of the Year, and in 2023, the NAACP of Silicon Valley cited her as Legislator of the Year. Julie’s passion for public service stems from her deep commitment to helping humans thrive. She is a New York Times best-selling author, and has published three nonfiction books on human development, including How to Raise an Adult, Real American: A Memoir, and Your Turn: How to Be an Adult. Her books have given her the opportunity to visit communities around the nation and the globe to thoughtfully discuss issues of parenting, race, and how humans thrive.

Julie and her partner, Dan, raised their two (now-adult) children in Palo Alto. In addition to her elected position, Julie serves on the nonprofit board of Black Women’s Health Imperative, on the Board of Trustees at California College of the Arts, and on the advisory boards of LeanIn.Org, Sir Ken Robinson Foundation and Baldwin For the Arts. Julie holds degrees from Stanford, Harvard Law, and California College of the Arts.
