Info | McCREDIE, William Wallace, a Representative from Washington; born in Montrose, Susquehanna County, Pa., April 27, 1862; moved to Iowa with his parents, who settled on a farm near Manchester, Delaware County; attended the common schools; was graduated from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1885; taught school at Parkersburg, Iowa, 1885-1889; attended the law school of the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1889 and 1890; moved to Portland, Oreg., in 1890 and completed the study of law; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Vancouver, Wash.; prosecuting attorney of Clarke County, Wash., 1894-1896; judge of the superior court at Vancouver, Wash., 1904-1909; became part owner of the Portland baseball club in 1904; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Francis W. Cushman and served from November 2, 1909, to March 3, 1911; unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1910 to the Sixty-second Congress; resumed his interest in the Portland club of the Pacific Coast Baseball League, serving as president until 1921, when he retired; continued the practice of law in Portland, Oreg., until his death in that city on May 10, 1935; interment in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
