InfoAs the co-founder, chairman and CEO of AmericanTours International, Noel Irwin Hentschel has created an extraordinarily successful travel company, bringing people from all over the world to the United States. She began ATI twenty-two years ago at the age of twenty-four with a vision and $5,000 in personal savings. Today, she presides over the nation's largest visit-USA tour operation with offices in the major gateway cities across America. ATI is the second largest woman-owned business in Los Angeles, with revenues of $150 million, some 450 employees and international visitors exceeding 800,000 each year. ATI generates an estimated $3 billion dollars into the U.S. economy, $800 million into California alone.

Noel serves on the boards of several business and travel industry associations including the Chamber of Commerce and the Travel Industry Association, but her activities extend beyond these arenas. She is a member of the Board of Regents at Loyola Marymount University, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and the Los Angeles Library Foundation.

Her philanthropy spans numerous organizations. In 1988, Irwin Hentschel established the Noel Foundation to create and fund projects devoted to helping women and children achieve financial independence. The Noel Foundation's "Award for Life" has honored women of accomplishment for their contributions in making a better world, including Lady Margaret Thatcher, Corazon Aquino, Benazir Bhutto, Helen Suzman, Mother Teresa and others.

Noel has been honored within her industry and by the business community for her contributions and achievements. In 1995, she received the California Travel Industry Association's prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Time magazine has recognized Noel as a "local hero," while Inc. magazine honored her as "Entrepreneur of the Year." The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) recognized her as its 1996 Woman Business Owner of the Year. Most recently, Noel was named the 1998 Humanitarian of the Year by the California Mothers Association as well as named one of Success Magazine's Top 100 Entrepreneurs, ranking just above Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart.

A respected donor and participant in the political process, Noel was most recently a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of California. She co-chaired the National Policy Forum's Council of Economic Growth and Workplace Opportunities. Noel has been an important player on Governor Pete Wilson's team, organizing numerous summits and trade missions. She also served as a representative to the Governor's Crime Summit and as a speaker at the Governor's Conference on Women.

A native of California born in Fresno, Noel is the eldest of ten children. She and her husband, Gordon Hentschel, live in Los Angeles and have seven children, five of whom are adopted.
