Info | Five years ago, Steve Dyck was commuting across Southern Ontario for his work in automotive engine development. Today he is the president of a Guelph-based solar heating company and a community and local food advocate. Steve says, “I commuted for five years before changing the focus of my life from the automotive industry to the sustainable energy field.”
Steve has a degree in mathematical science from the University of Alberta and has led design teams in Canada, the US, and Mexico. As a provincial Green Party candidate, Steve is ready to use his management and team-building skills to take the Green Party message to Queen's Park.
As a certified community mediator, Steve is passionate about local decision-making and practical positive solutions. He is a founding member of the Guelph Solar Community Co-operative, which gives everyone the opportunity to invest in renewable energy and generate manufacturing jobs.
Steve is on the Green Team at the Guelph church he attends and took leadership spearheading the installation of solar panels on its roof.
Volunteering in the ER of Guelph General Hospital solidified Steve’s commitment to well-funded public health care. Steve’s advocacy for the availability of healthy food (and food infrastructure) led him to volunteer with several local food initiatives like Fourfold Farms.
Steve sees the connections between local economies, sustainable health care, and nutritious local food. His top priority is to create 21st century jobs that strengthen this connection.
A long-time Green party supporter, Steve has served as vice-president of the Guelph Greens constituency association for the last three years. He is especially known for hosting lively capacity-building events in his home. Steve is an ideal Green Party candidate, talking to people about the challenges facing our world, hearing their concerns, and sharing the long-term solutions that the Green Party offers.
Steve grew up on a family farm where community building and a love for the land were parts of daily life. From Steve’s perspective, “The old economy has been built on cheap energy and traffic jams. It’s time for a new 21st century economy — one that builds a strong economy for our children, our quality of life, our health, and our communities. It is time for real solutions.”
Steve recently celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary and is the parent of two teenagers.
