Info | SEELEY, John Edward, a Representative from New York; born in Ovid, Seneca County, N.Y., August 1, 1810; attended Ovid Academy and was graduated from Yale College in 1835; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Monroe, Mich.; returned to Ovid, N.Y., in 1839; supervisor of Ovid in 1842; county judge and surrogate of Seneca County, N.Y., 1851-1855; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1856; elected as a Republican to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1873); resumed the practice of his profession in Ovid, N.Y., and died there March 30, 1875; interment on his farm near Ovid.
