Info | I was born September 8, 1970 in Metairie, La, which is in the New Orleans area. My parents were Janet Bowen and the late Gerard J. Bowen Sr. My mom was a homemaker and my dad retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad in 1994 after 31 years with them.
My wife, Mary Norman of Paradise, Utah, and I were married at the Navy Chapel on the Naval Support Activity in Algiers, La on November 14, 1992. In 2005 were forced to the Shreveport-Bossier City area by Hurricane Katrina and have since made this our home. We have 2 children, Gerard John Bowen III, “Trey”, (born June 27, 2004), and Maxwell Norman Bowen (born December 28, 2007).
EDUCATION
I am a 1989 graduate of East Jefferson High School. In 1999 I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training from Washington State University and in 2005 earned a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Tulane University.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I have worked in healthcare for 19 years. I have served as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and Navy Reserves and did 1 year of duty in the Army National Guard, all of which has been Honorable service (see my Military Service link for more details). I have worked in prison healthcare as a Corrections Medical Specialist, hospital administration, and as a Certified Athletic Trainer with various sports teams at the high school, college and professional levels. As part of my administrative experiences I have worked with business services and analytical support, dealing with projects to include budgets and cost-benefit analyses and projects dealing with insurance trends, software purchases, collections, marketing, and clinic expansion models. I feel that these experiences and degrees give me the right balance of education and experience to make me an ideal candidate. I have demonstrated flexibility, experienced leadership roles, and a variety of different philosophies. I have been able to incorporate the best aspects of each into the professional I am today, and have always been able to learn fast and work well with coworkers.
