| Info | SPALDING, Rufus Paine, a Representative from Ohio; born in West Tisbury, Mass., May 3, 1798; was graduated from Yale College in 1817; studied law and was admitted to the bar; moved to Little Rock, Ark., in 1820 and commenced practice; moved to Warren, Ohio, in 1821 and practiced his profession until 1835, when he moved to Ravenna, Ohio, and continued the practice of law; member of the State house of representatives 1839-1842, and served one term as speaker; associate judge of the Ohio Supreme Court 1849-1852; resumed the practice of law in Cleveland, Ohio; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1869); was not a candidate for renomination in 1868; resumed the practice of law; died in Cleveland, Ohio, August 29, 1886; interment in Lake View Cemetery.
