InfoWilliam Homer "Bill" Lightle

Georgia author Bill Lightle was hired as a general assignment reporter for the Albany Herald, his hometown newspaper, after graduating from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus with a degree in political science in 1980.
He was born in Indiana in 1957 and moved to Georgia nine years later when his father was hired by a manufacturing company in Albany. He fell in love with reading newspapers and telling stories when he was a boy. Those were two of the things his father loved.

While at the Albany Herald, he won two first place Associated Press Awards for excellence in reporting and writing. Throughout the 1980s, he also wrote for the Greenville News in South Carolina, the Florida-Times Union in Jacksonville, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

His John Maynard and Abby Sinclair novels are based on his experiences as a newspaper reporter banging out stories on a manual Royal typewriter in Albany. The two idealistic reporters are in love with one another and risk their lives seeking the truth.

Lightle later earned two master’s degrees and began a twenty-eight-year teaching career. But he never gave up his writing. He wrote part-time for newspapers while teaching and has produced several non-fiction books.
Today he lives with his wife Phyllis in Fayetteville, Georgia, and writes fulltime. They live in the country where the animals and the trees and the sun and the moon have their own stories to tell.
