InfoPublic service has been the focus of Valerie Docherty's career and she is excited about the opportunity to serve the residents of Kelly's Cross - Cumberland as part of the new Liberal team. Valerie is committed to offering the district effective representation to address key issues such as access to health care, affordable education, and the well-being of our primary industries.

Valerie is particularly concerned about the prospects of the agriculture and fishing sectors. She recognizes that the well-being of these sectors shapes the livelihood of the entire district. Valerie believes that the Island's agricultural and fisheries sectors simply can't be taken for granted any longer. She is concerned about how declining farm incomes and low catches are forcing Islanders out of our rural communities.

Valerie works for the Provincial Treasury and has held a number of management positions over the years. In addition, she has taught the Business Information Technology Program at Holland College.

Valerie has been very active at a community level. She currently represents the Kingston CIC as a member of the Board of Directors for Communities 13 Inc. She also chaired the operations committee during the construction of the AMP Centre. In addition to her municipal involvement, she has been active in local minor hockey. She has been a team manager for the North River Minor Hockey Association at the AAA and AA levels. She also served as the Chair of the 2006 Midget AAA Atlantics tournament.

Valerie and her husband Alex live in Elmwood with their two sons, Jordan and Logan, where they operate a family farm.
