InfoDesmond Abazia brings 25 years of experience to the race for General Assembly in the 10th Legislative District. The 52 year-old Brick Township Democrat has served in a number of high-ranking positions, in both the public and private sectors, that qualify him for the position.

A graduate of Carteret High School, Seton Hall University, and California Western School of Law, Abazia is a former Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officer, Union Country Assistant Prosecutor, Carteret Borough Attorney and its current Public Defender. He serves as a Deputy Public Defender for Brick Township. For the past 20 years he has been a small business owner practicing law in Carteret, most recently with his wife and partner Rochelle Gizinski, Esq.

He is the President-Elect of the Middlesex County Bar Association. Desmond is a recepient of an ABA Cindy Raisch Award for the delivery of lawyer referral and information services. In 1998, he was named the “General Practice Lawyer of the Year” by the New Jersey Bar Assocation for his efforts to educate and inform the public about our legal system.

An Eagle Scout, Abazia is a Past President of the Thomas A. Edison Boy Scout Council who awarded him its highest honor for distinguished service to youth, the Silver Beaver.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Sothern New Jersey chose Abazia as their “2001 Man of the Year” for his fundraising efforts on their behalf.

He is the Immediate Past President of the Brick Township Chapter of UNICO National, the largest Italian-American service organization in the nation.
