I am a 30 year veteran with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office. I started as a Deputy Sheriff in 1979 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1988. I was elected sheriff in 2006, and took office on December 1, 2006. I have served throughout the various divisions of the Sheriff's Office. For nearly 4 years I specialized in drug enforcement with the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, as well as the large scale Federal drug probe, code named Operation Adobe.

I am a recent graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 238. A graduate of the 93rd Session of the National Sheriff's Institute. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement Administration in 1979. I received an Associate of Arts' Degree in Law Enforcement from Black Hawk College. I am a graduate of United Township High School East Moline, Silvis Junior High, and George O' Barr grade schools.

I was born and raised in Silvis, IL. and have been a life-long resident of the community. I am a member of Heritage Wesleyan Church Rock Island.

I began representing my union brothers and sisters in 1990, and served in that capacity until I took the oath of office as sheriff. Making me the longest serving Union Representative of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 61 representing Deputy Sheriff's of the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office. I was reelected to this position every two years.

I am an active member of the National Sheriff's Association and the Illinois Sheriff's Association. I serve on the National Sheriff's Association's Homeland Security Committee and the Legal Affairs Committee. I chair the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force Board.

My leadership has brought about substantial improvements to the community and the agency.

* Established the Elderly Services Unit
* Instituted the Call Reassurance System for senior safety.
* Operate the Project Lifesaver system for tracking at risk walkaways.
* Integrated with the Rock Island County Emergency Management Agency for more efficient disaster response.
* Instituted the first professional testing for the positions of correctional officer and telecommunicator.
* Substantially increased the level of emergency response for potential large scale events.
* Obtained record amounts of equipment through grants, surplus programs and private donations; saving tax dollars.
