InfoA native of New Jersey, Tom O'Donoghue was inspired at a young age by President Reagan's call to national service. Tom's desire to serve his country led him to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he began to prepare for a long career of service and leadership. From there, he went on his first overseas tour of duty in Germany. It was here that Tom witnessed in the fall of the Berlin Wall and defeat of Communism in Eastern Europe.

Being a participant in such momentous events inspired Tom to pursue a deeper understanding of the world around him. While serving overseas, Tom traveled extensively through Europe and earned a master's degree in international relations from Boston University.

After serving in Germany, Tom returned to the U.S. where he married his wife Kathy and set out to further his education – this time receiving his MBA at Yale.

Shortly after that, Tom and Kathy moved to Northern Virginia, where they made their home and began a family. For the next several years, Tom worked as a telecommunications analyst and earned a law degree at Georgetown, all while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.

As it did for many people, September 11th changed everything for Tom. Once again feeling compelled to actively serve his country, Tom left his civilian job and volunteered for duty in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. Following his service in Afghanistan, Tom went on to combat duty in the war in Iraq. For his brave and tireless service, Tom was awarded the Combat Action Badge and the Bronze Star.

As an eleven-year resident of Northern Virginia, Tom has been actively involved in local politics.

After a long military career, an extensive education, and nearly two years of combat duty, Tom has stepped up to serve his country once again – this time in the U.S. House of Representatives.
