So with redistricting coming up, what states do everyone think would be the most difficult to gerrymander a handful of districts in one parties favor? Try not to answer California or New York or even Texas please, lol...

Alaska, Vermont, Rhode Island, Wyoming, Delaware, North Dakota and South Dakota. :)

Ohio is a state where the Republicans will try to shore up the suburban seats in Columbus (CD 12) and Cincinnati (CD 1). The state is heavily gerrymandered already so I don't see how the GOP could grab an additional district.
Also you can expect a grand re-design of state legislative seats in Virginia.

Alabama could easily have two dem districts.

Florida will also see some heavy gerrymandering.

This seems like a neat project. Not too much data, but those looking for precinct level data or precinct shape files might look here if you weren't already aware of it.

The last time I was glued to my TV like this was 9/11. I suppose I'm lucky my work is virtual for the time being.

I feel exhausted, I had a quick break after my works daily zoom meeting so I went to the grocery store to get my shopping done. I came home to a bunch of texts from a group chat me and my buddies are in. It speaks volumes that I wasn't shocked just speechless. Now to get my work done lol.

Should I ask what you weren't surprised about in the texts?

WSNJ: So sad.
We will get through this, we have a strong country. Its bigger than Trump, bigger than any one party, and we are surprisingly resilient.
Can't say I'm surprised. There were lots of signs building up to this. I've never felt Trump really values individuals or ideals - only himself. His mind is so warped that he probably likes whats going on.
Seems like everywhere else its about de-escalating drama. With Trump he likes conflict and drama and wants to escalate it.

I wish I were as optimistic. More than half the House GOP delegation voted to throw out the results of the election in order to install their preferred candidate. That is how dictatorships work. They did that AFTER the storming of the capitol. Josh Hawley is positioning himself to be Trump's heir apparent with direct appeals to the people who stormed the capitol. A poll out this morning finds as many Republicans approve of storming the capitol as disapprove. I hope the GOP gets its act together and becomes a constructive party of ideas, but I won't hold my breath. Our country is in deep trouble.

I should add that right-wing media will still be vying for the viewership of people like those who stormed the capitol. There will be no significant introspection, only more propaganda and fomenting of hate.

Schumer has called for invoking the 25th Amendment. That he is calling for it publicly means that Republicans must have privately dismissed the idea. [Link]

I predict neither invoking the 25th or an impeachment will happen.

I was more surprised it wasn't MORE violent than it already was. What a dumpster fire.

Pelosi is using the threat of impeachment to pressure Pence and the Cabinet into invoking the 25th. I doubt very much it will make any difference, as McConnell still runs the Senate and Republicans are still mostly spineless.
