And then there were nine. Servel cleared out 23 registered hopefuls, leaving the rest you see above [Link]

All's well until it doesn't end so well.

Diego Ancalao presents about 35 thousand signatures, more than needed, joins the small nine-person presidential club, and all is peaches and roses. Servel discovers two days later that 23,161 of those signatures were fake, signed before a notary who was dead; "(Patricio) Zaldívar's notary ceased to function in 2018 and said notary died in February of this year." [Link] The Servel subsequently boots out Ancalao, reports him for criminal prosecution, and tags his List of the People party for fraud and complicity, its 'team leaders' facing criminal prosecution and jail time. This may be the end of this party.

Next:

Confucius say: "Passageway perilous if bulb not too bright."

Self-declared 'Independent' Gino Lorenzini couldn't resist bragging about his party, Felices y Forrados, and does so AFTER he was approved by the Servel, thinking (or not actually thinking) he successfully pulled a fast one: "The independent candidacy of Mr. Gino Lorenzini Barrios was rejected by four votes and one inability, for failing to comply with the requirement indicated in the final paragraph of Article 5 of Law No. 18,700. That is, having been affiliated with a political party within the nine months prior to the expiration of the deadline for submitting declarations of candidacies." [Link]

Kast is really picking up steam and Sichel is becoming an also ran. Boric / Kast run-off.

I:9951E Pluribus Unum ( -256.32 points)October 25, 2021 11:42pm
The solace I get is that the two Boric/Kast runoff polls are Boric +5.5 and Boric +7.8

A body-shaking steep takeoff from under the radar for José Kast to first place and climbing is the talk of the Latin American press [Link] The surge begun in early October, at first dismissed as the equivalent of seeing a fuzzy image of an alien saucer, has now seriously solidified into an Antonov An-225. Equally dumbfounding is the collapse of Sichel, now at 5th place behind Franco Parisi (!) Kast is sucking in all of the air that inflated Sichel's balloon and siphoning off Sichel allies by the legions [Link] and [Link] .

Contrast the figures in today's poll with the one released by the same pollster on October 15 where Boric had a smashing double-digit lead over Kast [Link] . A perplexing state of affairs for Boric et alliés, especially as we enter a poll black-out period beginning November 7th.

This is the real test of whether or not the Pink Tide has officially returned....

José Antonio Kast, la máquina de vapor chilena.

Support for Kast just keeps confoundingly climbing. In this poll, out today [Link] Kast is now at 31% (!), Boric at 21.4%. And if you haven't been shocked enough today, in the Presidential run-off, the same poll sees Kast beat Boric 53.7% to 46.3%, a comfortable 7-point spread. What's going on? Could the pink tide be dammed by the Andes?

Thats why I say its the real test.

It really is Allende v Pinochet 2021

E Pluribus Unum: It really is Allende v Pinochet 2021

Please Boric is no where nearly as evil as Pinochet.

Kast unapologetically ran pro-Pinochet during a previous run, saying "If he were alive he would vote for me".

Sunday, November 7 was the last day for poll results. We are now forced to endure a three-week polling blackout. Here's the last poll released [Link]

Kast first started to lead the pack in a CADEM poll conducted on Oct 13-14. That was the poll that shocked the Santiago café society. Now the shock's worn off - Kast has been consistently leading, even into the second round, by 4 to 7 points. Boric has not made up ground, and like Sichel, he seems to be ambling about, lost in the shadows.

This blackout period will unnerve all seven candidates. It'll be curious to see if polling in Chile reflects actual intent, or if we're in for Peru or Ecuador-style surprises.

As of today, on the cusp of a dramatic change of direction for Chile, either leftward or rightward, a national thirst for 'who's up, who's down' has yet to be quenched (remember, Chile's in 'blackout' - polls have been banned in Chile since November 7).

Nicaragua's election, oddly (yet maybe not so) dominates Chilean discussion in the closing hours. Boric's Communist ally, rather inopportunely, gave its best wishes and love to Daniel Ortega [Link]
Kast, also rather inaptly, observed that Pinochet at least had free elections, and didn't jail en masse opposition candidates like Ortega [Link] Both events catalyzed a national stomach-turning ulcer just before the last, most important debate five days ago [Link]

Electioneering Rule Number One: do not remind the public of what they fear most about you a day before they vote.

Last thoughts on the race:

If Kast does not win outright on Monday, it is safe to say that Boric wins.

My reasoning is that I distinctly remember a poll that asked the question on which candidate would you NOT vote for in the 2nd round: and Kast won that with flying colors.

MEO, Provoste, and to a slight degree Artes voters would vote for Boric easily in the second round.

Parisi and Sichel voters may be a bit more hestitant to vote Kast and may either juat sit it out or evenly support either just to stop a preceived lesser evil. (At most u'll get a bunch of Parisi voters supporting Kast and maybe half of Sichels)

Race will be closer than expected but I have faith...

“¡viva Chile! ¡viva el pueblo! ¡vivan los trabajadores!”

Boric coming on strong out the gate.

Boric cleaned up abroad. Kast now surging.

Amazing Parisi climb up. He's still stranded in the States, unable to fly out due to COVID restrictions, and unable to campaign. Yet, he's now in third place.

I:9626Bojicat ( 822.51 points)November 21, 2021 04:44pm
I'm still astonished by Parisi. He's politically somewhere between Kast and Sichel (who, by the way, is being sent out to pasture) and may have been a one of the two finalists had he been allowed to glad-hand in Chile. He's one to watch for the next time.

I:9626Bojicat ( 822.51 points)November 21, 2021 05:15pm
With 40% now in, not looking promising for Boric - a 100,000+ vote distance between he and Kast.

I:9626Bojicat ( 822.51 points)November 21, 2021 07:24pm
A 150,000+ lead for Kast. Not insurmountable in the second round, but a hell of a tough slog for Boric to breach. All the pre-vote fuss over Provoste and Sichel - the public just tossed them aside. The press should have feasted its eyes on Parisi, the real boy-wonder of the night!

I:9951E Pluribus Unum ( -256.32 points)November 21, 2021 07:42pm
Especially given the probability that a majority of Provoste and MEO voters will back him easily.

That begs the question about Sichel and Parisi's voters

I am actually a little clueless about the current state of Chile except for their stand on cryptocurrency. Hmm, can someone please tell me if these results are actually promising or of they are disappointing? I just want to be updated. reference and info: [Link]
