The Peruvian press thinks that today's motion to impeach (called a Motion for Presidential Vacancy) will pass with 57 votes, 5 more than the 52 necessary [Link] . 37 Libre members will reluctantly rally behind president Castillo (Castillo's having a pretty open row with Libre party chief Vladimir Cerrón).
The next step for Congress is the impeachment itself, which will require 87 votes. If Castillo were removed, entirely possible, VP Dina Boluarte takes over. If Boluarte were also 'vacated', the President of Congress, María del Carmen Alva, takes command, who would then call for new elections to take place six months later.
This never ends.
