Nice to see the Lib Dems closing in on the Conservatives.

just in time for Parliamentary elections sometime in 2024, the Parliamentary results now go back to 1964 (before the last few days there were constituencies that didn't have results before 1983)

quite a few constituencies go back before that depending on stuff like how often new members are elected or how many failed candidates have Wikipedia entries because they went on to win somewhere else and the such (like if somebody was first elected in 1959, then the last election before them is also here).

Some of the last places to have 1964/66/70 elections added on here were either eternally conservative parts of Southeast England, or a few constituencies in Edinburgh/Glasgow. There were a few races that didn't have the right date until I checked and two where they had a by-election in 1967 and I skipped the 1966 election until just now

Nice. Thank you RBH!

The whole "add candidates from the last election" feature really speeds up adding a bunch of British races quickly. Also the whole thing where the number of candidates per seat drops as you go farther back in history.

Yeh imagine that there are number of candidates, even losing candidates that run election after election.

I bet you even found a few prominent MPs from all parties that made suicide runs in unsafe districts early in their political careers. That is the weird, fun side of this site for me. Using a candidate profile that already exists in an unexpected way.

Rumblings that the Prime Minister is about to call an election for July 4th. Cabinet meeting at 4PM local time and an announcement at 5.

Yikes. That'll be a lot of work for us in 1 month. Does Rishi understand the pressure he'll put on us with an early election call?

Yeah, a lot of chatter on this. I would discount one or two rumors, but this is basically everywhere.

And what's with co-opting American Independence Day??? :)

RP: And what's with co-opting American Independence Day??? :)

Richard Dawson on Match Game once said "In England, [July 4] is a day of mourning." Let's see what party gets to use that line again.

For some reason, I think that a July election is better than if they called it for October/November and we had to put in work on that with everything else going on

Of course, watching Sky/BBC on the night of the 4th of July is gonna be something

We have to change map dates for new boundaries as well as election dates.

The filing deadline for a general election is 4PM on the nineteenth working day before the election, which my calculation makes that June 7th.

If you wish to work on any races/maps, we might want to tackle a region at a time and post on the election page when you finish it. I'll get to work tonight. I use party placeholders for races without a candidate so I don't forget.

As is custom, the "Term End" date for outgoing parliamentary races is "July 4, 2024" rather than the dissolution date. I also believe we have the "Term Start" dates for the races in July as "July 5, 2024" at 12:00AM so it doesn't confuse the maps.

Thanks for everyone's help and contributions over the next several weeks! Glad we have such a great resource for all these elections!

Would that be 10am in the Central Time Zone the site uses?

The map locations are way too big. I would say to at least pass them through a Reduce Poly of 0.0005

D:1989RBH ( 5694.97 points)May 22, 2024 09:15pm
let me guess... Scotland?

*goes to one Scottish constituency, clicks on 2024 map*

4 million bytes!

D:1RP ( 5639.51 points)May 22, 2024 09:22pm
I was doing Wales, but I assumed it would be across all the map locations.

D:1989RBH ( 5694.97 points)May 22, 2024 09:29pm
and 4 million wasn't as large as the 9 million byte Scottish constituencies I found.. Scotland just came to mind for having places like like 100 islands in one district

Scottish maps have been tightened up.

And that's just one on a map with dozens of them.

Scotland and Newfoundland having similar style in regards to how large their shapefiles are.

I kinda hate these fake Countries-Within-a-Cpuntry. They aren't real Countries, they are basically the equivalent of US states. They mess up site functionality and organization something fierce.

D:1RP ( 5639.51 points)May 28, 2024 09:11am
I'm considering reconfiguring them that way, but Northern Ireland political parties give me pause.

Not sure how to do this, but can we update the prime minister here?

NCdem: Not sure how to do this, but can we update the prime minister here?

Because Sunak is still showing up for you?

If that's the case, just update the time travel feature in the upper right corner. It may be showing the date you last logged in on and not today's date.
