Filing closed in MO today.

For reference: Dems ran candidates in 145 of 163 state house districts (their best since 2002) and Reps ran candidates in 135 of 163 districts. Ds ran in all 17 state senate districts and Rs in 16 of 17.

Rs lead 116-47 in the House and 25-8 in the Senate, with a vacancy in one Senate District that'll be filled in June (that will impact one of the House races since it's two incumbent House members running for the Senate, so the winner will drop out sometime before August or November in a process that I'm unsure of at this moment).

Only took until 10:30am on the final day for a Dem candidate to file in my state house district. I hope she does a lot better than the 33% the last Dem got there in 2016.

Also, 19 year olds can't run for Congress, so that proved to undermine Peyton Faucett's MO-7 'campaign'

Once a new Treasurer is appointed, 4 of Missouri's six state constitutional offices will be held by appointees.

with Galloway getting into office in 2015 via appointment, meaning Ashcroft would be the only state-level officer to win their office without being appointed first

MN 1978: We got 3 statewide appointed officeholders.

Give me a few hours and I’ll pull up a map I made on Dave’s Redistricting which hypothetically could give Democrats 4-5 seats I think.

Don't bother. A 4-5 seat Missouri Democratic map is pure fantasy.

This might actually be illegal because of the Voting Rights Act. Whatever.

For my side of the state, MO5 is reasonably close to what I was hoping for.

As for the St. Louis side of the state, there's some R tweeters thinking they didn't go far enough to protect Wagner and some really wanted a 7-1 map. Might also get some people looking over the MO1 lines just in case it impacts Cori Bush any.

Hey I don't know if someone is interested in doing this but it's another opportunity for OC to continue its dominance of historic elections on the internet.

Today when looking for something else, I came across an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 10/14/1894, that included a likeness of the Democratic and Republican nominees for US House in Missouri. Anyone interested can download the page at the link below and add the images of the candidates where they're missing here at OC.

Sorry I don't have time to do this in the near future. If someone wants to do it, maybe you should let others know.

Also you can work in the biographic details around the perimeter of the page.

In general, I would recommend against using images from newspapers as they are vigilant about enforcing their copyright for them.

In this case, and all works published before January 1, 1927, they should be in the public domain. Be very careful about anything published after that date.

The less gerrymandered (6-2) status quo map finally passed the Senate rather than the 7-1 they were trying for. [Link]

a long process finally entered by the combined force of mathematics and a fear of federal courts

The Missouri Senate has 24 Republicans and 10 Democrats and a filibuster (requiring 23 of 34 members to agree to move forward) and this map ended up passing with 16 Republicans and 6 Democrats voting aye and 7 Republicans/4 Democrats voting nay

So they didn't have enough Rs to pass it by themselves but I guess the logic of Ds voting for the map is for getting 6-2 and not giving them a reason to gather votes outside of the usual suspects to push for 7/1. But they would have gotten a better overall map from most federal judges

Just saw Missouri legislative leaders were elected this week; please feel free to add the races if you know more details about the them. [Link]
