Probably Omar, but I think Maxine Waters would be the biggest fish they could go after.

It should be Cori Bush, but will be either Omar, or probably Tlaib.

Punchbowl News is late to the game:
One thing is very clear -- Republicans will retaliate against Democrats if they win the majority in 2023. GOP lawmakers mention Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (Minn.) and Maxine Waters (Calif.) among those who would be in danger of being removed from their panels by a GOP majority. More such removals may follow.

None of them threatened violence. Any GOP action would be purely spiteful.

I don’t think either party should remove people from their committees regardless of how much they suck

If it were just a matter of "sucking," sure. MTG and Gosar are guilty of more than merely sucking.
But it's 2021 and nothing matters anymore.

In parliamentary democracies, parties boot their nutters out of caucus.

I think the Republicans will get 218 seats with Garcia, Steel, Kiley, Chavez-DeRemer, Ciscomani, Williams, and Boebert. The Democrats will erase Valadao's, Calvert's, and Duarte's lead.

Will McCarthy be Speaker?

BrentinCO: Will McCarthy be Speaker?
While I will enjoy watching the infighting, they would have to be crazy not to fall in line. Oh, wait...

Seems like it would be huge if McCarthy wasn't elected Speaker. Not saying its impossible, but it would cause problems with other Republicans.
Above all, even those that might have ambitions of their own and are more conservative want to preserve some sort of order of seniority. The sabre rattling by Gaetz and others is likely just a very public negotiation.

Unofficial but as of now it looks like NY-17 was the tipping point district:

#219 IA-03: R+0.7
#218 NY-17: R+0.8
#217 AZ-01: R+0.9

Realistically I think the states of NY, FL, and CA gave the US House to the GOP.

The Long Island NY surprise flips and Maloney's unexpected loss were huge wins in putting Republicans in control.

This is funny, but not really true, I think changing when they take office would fix this issue but I have only been on here for a few years so think an admin should do it. /photo/1

For that matter, we could move all the Take Office dates for Reps since they haven't been able to be sworn in yet.

They have been seated and they are voting, from a philosophical prospective I guess they are sitting members since they are voting and have taken their seats, even though they have not been officially sworn in yet.

there's about 150+ years of Congress being sworn in months after the official term start dates though, so the precedent for keeping the dates on January 3rd is there.

I wasn't really proposing that. Or changing the other item. The vote has opened, nobody has been elected, Jeffries is leading the vote so far.

This will go no where, but still its fun to speculate. Excited for Delaware, South Dakota, Hawaii and Idaho. And WV would gets its third back.

Keeping track of House Map updates, here what I'm seeing. Did I miss anything?
Alabama (0 / +1 D)
Louisiana (+1 D)
New York (0 / +2 D)
North Carolina (+2 R)
Ohio (0 / +1 R)
Feels like we are about at a wash. Maybe still favoring Republicans given the process in the D states. Add in Slotkin and Trone districts as being competitive with possible R pickups.
Did I also see California may also redo maps?
Anyway....still feels real tight. Thoughts?

It should remain close. Id be curious to see how these districts pan out.

The NC remap could give Republicans up to +4 seats.
The NY remap could give Democrats up to +6 seats.
The Ohio remap could be +2R.
The LA remap might be slow-walked to 2026.
The AL VRA case may force a GA remap with likely moving a fairly safe R seat to a competitive one.
There is a TX case working its way through with many VRA claims. I doubt if this will happen for 2024, but could be several seats.
I haven't heard anything about CA remapping.
