The preceding table shows the number of votes cast in three types of presidential nominating events of 2008. The first column represents the 28 states and DC that held primaries resulting in pledged delegates. The beauty pageant totals represent the popular vote in three states where no delegates were at stake. The caucus results include the totals of 14 state caucuses, two territorial caucuses, and Democrats Abroad. The numbers reflect official returns when possible and were updated following the Pennsylvania primary.

Note: although these totals should not be added to produce a nationwide vote, the candidates are arranged in this table in the order of the gross number of votes cast.
