Description | Democratic nomination
Branch won re-nomination at the Democratic district convention held at Greenville on 8/15/1894. He carried the first ballot with 151 votes to 117 for others (W. H. Lucas-41, L.L. Smith-23, W.T. Caho-22, G.G. Luke-17, and G.H. Brown-14) (Wilmington Weekly Star, 8/17/1894).
Populist and Republican nomination
The Populist district convention met at Edenton on 9/7/1894. Skinner was nominated by acclamation. The Republicans held their first district convention at the same time and endorsed Skinner (Raleigh North Carolinian, 9/13/1894). |
