Description | This Southern Ontario riding consists of both urban and rural areas, including the city of Cambridge and the township of North Dumfries.
Manufacturing, including automotive, textile and shoe manufacturing, accounts for 22 per cent of jobs. There is also a strong technology sector in the region.
The average household income is $72,055 and the unemployment rate is 5.2 per cent. There is a large Portuguese community in Galt-Cambridge.
The riding was created in 1976 from most of Waterloo-Cambridge and a small portion of Wellington riding. In the 1996 redistribution the lines were redrawn to take in parts of Wellington and Brant Counties. In 2004, the Cambridge riding part of the city of Kitchener in the northwest corner was moved into the Kitchener-Conestoga riding.
