Info | Andrea F. Nuciforo, Jr. was elected to the Massachusetts Senate in 1996, and is now serving in his forth term. Representing 48 cities and towns in the Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin District, Senator Nuciforo has worked to enhance elder services, promote economic development, strengthen public education, and protect the environment.
Senator Nuciforo serves as the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Banks and Banking. He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, the Local Affairs Committee, the Steering and Policy Committee, and the Election Laws Committee.
He also serves on the following commissions and caucuses: Legislative Children's Caucus; Legislative Caucus on Older Citizens' Concerns; Legislative Rural Caucus; Legislative Tobacco Control Caucus; Special Commission on Forest Management Practices; Special Jury Commission; Advisory Commission on Voter Registration Reform; and the Special Commission to Investigate Alternatives to the Annual Listing of Residents.
Born in Pittsfield in 1964, Senator Nuciforo attended Pittsfield public schools and then graduated from Taconic High School in 1982. He obtained a diploma from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1986 with a major in English and a minor in Political Science and then attended the Boston University School of Law. After graduating from BU in 1989, he worked as Law Clerk to the Honorable Frank H. Freedman, Chief Judge United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He then entered the private practice of law.
During his career, Senator Nuciforo has been honored with several awards, including: Legislator of the Year, 2002-Massachusetts Municipal Association; The Francis X. Doyle Award, 2002-Berkshire Health Systems; Berkshires' Best State Legislator, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002-The Berkshire Eagle; Legislative Achievement Award, 2001-Massachusetts Association of Jewish Federations; Recognition Plaque, 2000-Berkshire Regional Employment Board; Legislator of the Year, 1999-Snowmobile Association of Massachusetts; Certificate of Appreciation, 1999-Women's Health Coordinators Collaborative.
Senator Nuciforo enjoys mountain biking, skiing, traveling and reading. He lives in Pittsfield.
