InfoJim was born in Camden, Arkansas, in 1965. His dad having died just three years later, Jim spent his childhood being reared by several people who were to prove influential in his life, most notably his grandmother and a family in Springdale with whom he remains close friends to this day. It was during these times that he dedicated his life to serving Christ, a commitment which he would reaffirm at the age of eighteen. Jim graduated from Shiloh Christian School in 1983, and worked in several occupations over the course of the following four years. It was then that he met young Bobye Barenberg on a blind date, and the two married just months before Jim enlisted in the Army.

Jim was shipped off to the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California, for training as a Russian linguist. Upon graduation from DLI, Jim was a new father, his baby daughter Kaeleigh having been born. The Army had need of personnel in the intelligence field, and the Holt family packed up and moved to Goodfellow AFB in Texas, where Jim attended crypt-analyst school. This was in preparation for his later assignment as watch officer at the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Maryland, where he spent the majority of his Army career with short stints in Arizona, New Jersey, and S. Korea.

The Holts were all set--a military family rarely has a dull moment, and Jim was steadily working his way up in rank. But in his seventh year in service his grandmother became gravely ill, and he left the Army to take care of her during her last two years on Earth. This necessitated another change in occupation, and Jim became a youth counselor and chaplain at Piney Ridge Center (for juvenile sex offenders).

Jim's entry into public offic came in a successful run for Arkansas' fifth district (West side of Springdale, Siloam Springs, Tontitown, Johnson, Wedington, Harmon, and Cincinatti) in the year 2000. After completing his term as representative, Jim was elected as state senator, 35th district where he recently 'slugged it out' in one of the longest special sessions in Arkansas' history.

Jim and Bobye now have 4 boys and 4 girls. All but the youngest two, Samuel and Silas Holt, shamelessly campaign for their father. Samuel is currently researching the new campaign finance laws to determine when he'll be eligible to join in along with his other siblings.
