Elected to the Alabama House of Representatives from Jefferson County in 1958 and 1962.
Representative John Hawkins served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1959 to 1965, served in the State Senate from 1966 to 1974, and has served his current term in the House since 1990. He was born on September 27, 1926, and attended the Marion Military Institute and the University of Alabama. He and his wife, Betty, are the parents of three children: John III, Bill, and Davis. A retired Special Projects Manager from the Alabama Power Company, Representative Hawkins is a member of the Southminister Presbyterian Church. He also serves as a member of the Vestavia - Hoover Kiwanis Club, the Hoover and Vestavia Chambers of Commerce, and Friends of Hoover.
